TL;DR
HK Dance Studios runs adult dance classes every Thursday evening at its Billericay studio, 10 minutes north of Basildon. Two all-levels Heels and Commercial classes, 7.30pm and 8.30pm, taught by a working professional. No experience needed, trainers are fine, and the first class is free with no card. A Basildon venue is coming in 2026.

If you are an adult in Basildon who wants to dance, and you have spent ten minutes searching only to find children's classes and the odd fitness session, this one is for you.
I am Dionne. I opened HK Dance Studios in 2003 and I still run it. Most of what we do is teach children, that is true. But two nights a week the studio belongs to the grown-ups, and those classes have quietly become some of my favourite hours of the week.
Where the adult classes actually are
Let me be straight about location, because it matters. HK's adult classes run at our Billericay studio, not in Basildon itself. We are at Summerhill Farm, Pipps Hill Road North, Noak Bridge, CM11 2UJ, which is roughly a ten-minute drive north of central Basildon. We are opening a Basildon venue in 2026, but for now Billericay is where the adult class lives.
For most people in Basildon, Wickford and the CM11 and CM12 area, that short drive is the only catch. There is parking on site, which after a long day is worth more than it sounds.
What the class actually is
Every Thursday evening we run two adult classes back to back at Billericay:
- 7.30 to 8.30pm, Heels and Commercial, all levels
- 8.30 to 9.30pm, Heels and Commercial, all levels
Same teacher, same energy, pick the time that fits your week. Commercial is the music-video style of dance you already know from your screen, sharp, rhythmic, full of attitude. Heels is the same energy danced in heels, though you absolutely do not need heels to take part.
It is real choreography, not a workout dressed up as a class. You learn a routine across the hour: a warm-up to the music, some travelling steps across the floor, then the choreography itself, the bit you catch yourself practising in the kitchen on Friday. It happens to be good exercise, because dance is good exercise, and the NHS adult activity guidelines count an hour like this toward your week. But the point is the dancing, not the calories.
You do not need to have danced before
This is the thing that stops most adults from walking in, so I want to deal with it head on. You do not need any experience. Half the room on any given Thursday is in the same position, curious and slightly nervous, and the class is taught with first-timers in mind.
Bring trainers. Leave the nerves at the door. The teacher is a working professional dancer who knows how to break a routine down so a complete beginner can follow it, and there is no school-show pressure and no judgement. It is an hour where grown-ups get to dance, nothing more complicated than that.
You can also drop in when life allows. The choreography changes regularly, so you can come every week or once in a while and still pick up wherever you are.
Why the short drive from Basildon is worth it
Basildon has its options. What we offer that is harder to find is 23 unbroken years of teaching dance in Essex, taught by professionals who actually work in the industry, in a room that was built to be welcoming rather than intimidating.
HK is owner-run. I am not a franchise and these are not licensed branches. When you come on a Thursday you are walking into the same school I started at eighteen, still run by me, with teachers I trained and trust. If you want a sense of the wider school first, the classes across Essex guide covers all of our studios and age groups, including what is coming next.
How to try it
The first adult class is free. No card, no contract, no catch. You turn up on a Thursday, you dance for an hour, and you decide afterwards whether it is for you.
Pick a time, book a free first class, or call me directly on 07771 970 515. You can see the full adult timetable on the website. I will see you on the floor.

Frequently asked
What parents ask us.
Are there dance classes for adults in Basildon?
HK's adult classes run at our Billericay studio, which is roughly 10 minutes north of central Basildon at Summerhill Farm, Pipps Hill Road North, Noak Bridge, CM11 2UJ. We are opening a Basildon venue in 2026, and until then Billericay is the nearest place to take an adult class with us. The classes run every Thursday evening and welcome all levels, including complete first-timers.
Do I need any dance experience to join?
No. The adult classes are built for people who have never danced before. On any given Thursday a good part of the room is new, and the teacher adapts the choreography on the spot so you are never left behind. Bring trainers and turn up, that is genuinely all you need for the first class.
When do the adult classes run, and what are they?
Thursday evenings at the Billericay studio. There are two classes, 7.30 to 8.30pm and 8.30 to 9.30pm, both Heels and Commercial, both all levels and the same teacher. Pick whichever time fits your week. You can dance the whole thing in trainers, heels are optional and something you can try later if you want to.
Is the first class really free?
Yes. The first adult class is free with no card needed and no contract. After that there is drop-in and term pricing, no joining fee and no deposit, so you pay for the classes you actually take. Call Dionne on 07771 970 515 or book online and we will get you booked into a Thursday.
