If you have typed "dance classes near me" into Google and found a long list of names with no way to tell them apart, this is for you. I have run dance classes across Essex for 23 years, and the question I hear most from new parents is a simple one: where is the class nearest us, and will my little one be all right when we get there?
This is a guide to where HK runs, what each studio offers, and how to find the one nearest you. The short version: we have two open studios you can join today, two more on the way, and every open studio starts with a free first class.
Where you can start today
HK Dance Studios has two open studios in Essex: Billericay and Maldon. Most families start at whichever is nearest home, and most start with a single class a week. You do not need to pick a style, commit to a term, or know anything about dance before you come. You pick the studio, tell us your child's age, and we do the rest.
We teach eight styles in all, from street dance and hip hop, where HK started in 2003, through to ballet, tap, acro and musical theatre. Whatever your child is drawn to, there is a class for it. And both studios teach the same four age bands, so wherever you start, there is a class built for your child's age:
- HK Tots (2 to 4) for toddlers finding their first feet in dance
- HK Minis (5 to 7) for the first proper classes
- HK Juniors (8 to 12) as confidence and skill grow
- Teens (13 and over) for dancers choosing it for themselves
You can see the full timetable by age band, or read about each age group in more detail to find where your child fits.
Billericay (our home studio)
Billericay is where HK started in 2003, and it is still where I teach. You will find us at Summerhill Farm, in Summerhill Garden Centre, with plenty of free parking and a comfortable parent waiting area. Classes run across every age band through the week, Monday to Saturday. If you are central in Essex, or coming up from the Basildon, Wickford or Laindon direction, the Billericay studio is the natural starting point.
Maldon
Maldon is our studio for families to the east, five minutes from Tesco Maldon and the nearest HK studio for anyone coming from the Chelmsford direction. It is a warm, welcoming room where new starters are never the only beginner, with free parking on site. The Maldon page has the days and times for each age group.
Coming soon to Essex
Two more studios are on the way.
Rayleigh opens in September 2026. If you are in Rayleigh and want your child to start sooner, Billericay is within reach in the meantime. Tell us your postcode when you call and we will let you know the moment Rayleigh opens.
Basildon is new for 2026, and you can register your interest now. Until it opens, Billericay is the nearest HK studio for families across Basildon, Pitsea and Laindon, and it is where most families in the south of the county start. If you want to read more about what HK offers Basildon families, I have written a guide for the Basildon area.
Not sure which is nearest?
If you are not sure which studio is the shorter drive, or which age group your child belongs in, the easiest thing is to ask. Tell us your postcode and your child's age, and we will point you straight to the right studio and the right class. No guesswork, no working it out from a timetable on your own.
The first class is free at both open studios, with no card and no commitment. Dionne calls to confirm the slot, usually the same day you book. If your child loves it, you choose how to carry on. If it is not for them, that is genuinely fine. You can read exactly what happens in a first class before you come, so there are no surprises on the day.
HK has run without a break since 2003, owner-operated throughout. Wherever you start, you are starting with a school that will still be here in three years.

What parents ask us.
Where can I find dance classes near me in Essex?
HK Dance Studios has two open studios: Billericay and Maldon. Billericay is the home studio at Summerhill Farm, Billericay, and has run since 2003. Maldon is at Wycke Hill, five minutes from Tesco Maldon. Two more are on the way: Rayleigh opens in September 2026, and Basildon is new for 2026. Tell us your postcode and your child's age when you call and we will point you to the nearest one and the right class.
When are the Rayleigh and Basildon studios opening?
Rayleigh opens in September 2026. Basildon is new for 2026 and you can register your interest now. Until they open, Billericay is the nearest HK studio for families in the Basildon, Pitsea, Laindon and Rayleigh areas, and it is where most families in the south of the county start. Tell us your postcode and we will point you to your nearest open studio in the meantime.
Do you teach street dance, or just one style?
HK teaches eight styles, from street dance and hip hop through to ballet, tap, acro and musical theatre. Street dance is where HK started in 2003 and it is still at the heart of what we do, but every child finds their place whatever they are drawn to. You do not need to pick a style before you come. Tell us your child's age and we will start them in the right group.
What age can children start dance classes at HK?
From age 2. HK teaches four age bands: HK Tots (2 to 4 years), Minis (5 to 7), Juniors (8 to 12) and Teens (13 and over). Every age band has its own class and its own pace, so a two-year-old finding their feet and a teenager who already loves dance are never in the same room.
Is the first class free?
Yes. The first class is free at both open studios, with no card needed at booking. You choose the studio, the age group and the day. Dionne calls to confirm the slot, usually the same day. If your child loves it, you choose how to pay going forward. If it is not for them, there is no hard sell and no follow-up pressure. That has been HK's policy since 2003.
